About AUSTPAC

AUSTPAC is a government relations and public-affairs consultancy. We help businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders navigate Australian policy, engage decision-makers, and shape public conversation. Our interns support live client work and thought-leadership that informs media, industry, and parliamentary stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor parliament, budgets, inquiries, and media; maintain research briefs and stakeholder maps.

  • Draft short policy notes, op-eds, and explainers on Australian political and economic issues.

  • Build and clean basic datasets (polling, fiscal measures, trade, committee work) and present findings clearly.

  • Prepare meeting packs (backgrounders, talking points, risk/issues logs).

  • Fact-check, reference, and uphold non-partisanship, confidentiality, and probity standards.

  • Join virtual check-ins; present insights succinctly to senior staff.

What You’ll Gain

  • Publication credit on selected AUSTPAC outputs and a professional writing portfolio.

  • Direct exposure to policy processes and stakeholder engagement at the national level.

  • Mentorship in research design, evidence standards, and editorial style for policy audiences.

  • A strong CV line demonstrating applied analysis and disciplined drafting.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong academic record and clear, precise writing.

  • Quantitative literacy (Excel/Google Sheets; basic stats). R/Python a plus, not required.

  • Sound judgement, integrity, and deadline discipline in a remote environment.

  • Demonstrated interest in Australian politics, public finance, and institutions.

Time Commitment

  • ~10–12 hours per week across six weeks; remote, with core collaboration window 10:00–16:00 AET when required.

Terms

  • Unpaid, for learning and professional development.

  • Academic-credit arrangements supported where permitted by your university.

  • AUSTPAC is non-partisan and an equal-opportunity organisation.
